The Margate School of Arts is pleased to present NOT NOT EGGS, a solo exhibition by Finnish artist and designer Roosa Tulvio.

NOT NOT EGGS is an immersive, tactile dreamscape that exists between fertility and rot, action and silence. Through installation, sound, projection and textiles, Tulvio transforms the gallery into a spatial meditation on desire, creation, and becoming. The exhibition is an ode to the imaginary babies that were never to be, to the body that incubates and blooms, and to the hands that insist on making something out of nothing.

The title draws on Sheila Heti’s writing on motherhood and identity, embracing negation as agenerative space. Rather than defining the self through absence, NOT NOT EGGS proposes a state of openness: not lack, not refusal, but possibility. The work inhabits the fragile territory where longing has not yet hardened into fear; where want has not yet become need.

Tulvio’s installation brings together projections, sound and soft sculptural forms, enveloping the viewer in a sensorial environment. The projected works were developed in collaboration with TheBioCosmos, extending the exhibition’s exploration of organic processes, transformation and time.

Material-led practice is central to Tulvio’s work. All materials used in NOT NOT EGGS have been collected over the past two years from pre- and post-consumer waste and from former commercial projects, avoiding the use of virgin materials. This approach reflects a longer-term shift in her practice toward ecological thinking, sustainability, and slowness. With a background in design and art fabrication, Tulvio positions handcraft and careful making as deliberate counterpoints to fast-paced, consumption-driven production culture.

Born in 1984 in Finland, Roosa Tulvio lives and works between London and Margate. Her practice spans objects, installations and sculptures, what she describes as tactile dreamscapes. She holds a BA (Hons) in Accessory Design and Development from University of the Arts London and studied fine arts at The Margate School. Recent projects include the public installation Seeds of Life (2025), created with Mathias Gmachl for Kunstmeile Krems, Austria.
